Moving Exhibition

The moving exhibition, inaugurated on 2 July 2003 by Fundació Ernest Morató in the Municipal Threatre of Palafrugell, is the first approach to the history of the “habaneras” and sea shanties, to the foshermen, sailors and mulattas. A ritme de 2x4 is an instructional and pedagogical route through the surrounding world of the 'habanera' music, its popular spaces and its protagonists. The eexhibition is divides in three different parts (Cuba, Catalonia and Spain) and shows in 12 boards how these songs developed in each historical frame and in each place, where they were sung and the function they had together with some brief biographical quotations about the most representative composers of each period and each area.

The exhibition, profusely illustrated, explains with great effort of synthesis, the evolution of the “habanera” from its origins in the Cuban country dance to its arrival to the theatre stages and the formation of the first groups in the mid sixties, their arrival at the taverns, tha fishermen huts and at the 'Cors del Clavé'. The exhition, presented in two different languages (Catalan and Spanish), has been produced from the Documentation Centre of Fundació Ernest Morató and singers and followers of the “habanera” world who have given some documents and images to be reproduced.

The moving exhibition has been presented so far in Palafrugell (August 2003), Calella de Palafrugell (June 2004 and 2005), Cotlliure (July 2004), Manresa (september 2004), El Masnou ( October 2004), Barcelona ( November 2004), Calafell (August 2005), Figueres (April 2006) and Hospitalet de l´Infant (July 2006).
